A Three-Dimensional Parametric Study of the Effects of a Fault Rupture on a Multi-Story Building

Earthquake events have shown that besides the earthquake forces, interaction between fault rupture and structures could cause a lot of damage. Field observations revealed need to design for fault-induced loading in regions with active faults. In this study, three-dimensional numerical simulation was carried out evaluate performance 20-story frame building subjected propagation normal rupture. An advanced hypoplastic sand model (which can capture small-strain stiffness stress-state dependent dilatancy sand) adopted.
